Advanced Heat Pipes: Heat pipes are reliable, no moving part devices for moving heat from one place to another, and are used in satellites, heating and cooling systems to cool laptop computers. However, their performance is limited by their ability to return the working fluid to the high temperature end (heat source). TDA is developing a passive, high performance heat transport system called the pulse-thermal-loop that has an order of magnitude greater capacity than the best heat pipes.
Space Radiators: Both satellites and manned spacecraft use radiation to space to reject the heat generated on board. These radiators are large and heavy. TDA has developed carbon composite space radiators that are significantly lighter than existing aluminum radiators. TDA has built both single and double sided radiators, lightweight radiators that can withstand repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and radiators that conform to the curve of a hull.
