TDA is looking for a Process Engineer with a strong passion for new technology/process development. Our fast-paced work environment offers a myriad of opportunities for a self-motivated, multi-faceted process engineer. The Process Engineer will work with project leaders and research engineers to support designing new process concepts, commercial demonstration units, and full-scale systems. This position may be required to work with various hazardous materials, such as compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, acids, bases, oxidizers, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other hazardous chemicals. The employee will receive specialized safety training and be an active member of the safety and spill teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop process designs of real and conceptual processes for various applications including CO2 capture and gas separations and purification
  • Perform engineering calculations under the supervision of Senior Process Engineers
  • Markup and update existing PFD’s, P&ID’s, and drawings as requested
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and system FAT during the process development
  • Provide in-office and on-site engineering support for start-up, field demonstrations, performance testing, and routine maintenance activities
  • Collect and analyze process and operating data from field test units
  • Convey complex information clearly and concisely

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong grasp of fundamental thermodynamic, heat transfer, and mass transfer principles including separations
  • Experience preparing heat and material balances, PFD’s and P&ID’s
  • Proficient at equipment and pipe sizing, specifying process equipment such as blowers, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, vacuum systems, and gas-solid and gas-liquid contactors
  • Effective communication with engineering and equipment vendors
  • Familiarity with industrial safety procedures
  • Foundational understanding of system controls and basic plant layout principles
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to track documents
  • Excellent communication skills with efficient visualization techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible to manage and execute multiple projects in parallel

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Process simulation, any software but Symmetry is preferred
  • Experience with gas purification processes especially TSA, VSA, and PSA systems
  • Experience with pilot plant design, construction, run planning, and operation
  • Experience with scaling up engineering and pilot scale processes to demonstration and commercial scale designs
  • Participation in safety and operational hazard analysis and familiarity with best practices
  • Experience with plant cost analysis and technoeconomic analysis
  • Design experience with carbon capture processes is a plus
  • Experience with Symmetry (formerly VMGSim) or other process simulation software and AutoCAD P&ID development
  • Strong technical writing skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 0-7 years of process design experience

Roles and Responsibilities:

Different focus areas are available based on applicant’s abilities. Duties could include following list.

  • Assist in 3D printing experiments including model creation, paste preparation and printing
  • Assist in visual design work
  • Coat and test sample coupons (labeling, cleaning, surface preparation, coating, etc.)
  • Clean, calibrate and maintain equipment
  • Design and build simple website
  • Document and perform various experiments
  • Calibrate balances (under supervision)
  • Assist in the crating and storing of laboratory equipment
  • Clean indoor and outdoor storage areas

The Chemical Engineer Intern will perform a variety of research and development tasks in a chemical and analytical laboratory under the direction of a senior engineer, including preparing solutions, using analytical tools to identify products, and constructing and testing device prototypes.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute safe and effective chemical handling techniques
  • Follow detailed instructions when performing established experimental methods
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot devices, equipment, and control systemsAnalyze data and prepare experimental and quality control reports

TDA is seeking a highly qualified Chemistry Lab Intern with a passion for developing advanced technologies and translating them into real-world applications. The Chemistry Lab Intern will be responsible for running laboratory tests on new firefighting foam formulations, dry chemical agents, and defoaming agents under the supervision of a staff chemist. This job will consist of a variety of duties throughout the week. The intern may also occasionally be asked to complete various internal research tasks either on their own or in a group. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Implementing an assigned project, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of the group
  • Perform hands-on tasks and experimentation in a laboratory setting, including:
    • Formulating and sample preparation
    • Benchtop wet chemistry
    • Foam synthesis and characterization
    • Small-scale fire extinguishment tests
    • Operation and maintenance of analytical instruments
    • General support to team for sample preparation, data entry, analysis and reporting
  • Assist with other duties as communicated by supervisor and rotate among multiple work stations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of fundamental chemical concepts and properties
  • Demonstrated general laboratory experience and exposure to analytical and organic chemistry

The Engineering Intern will work with project leaders and engineers to assemble and operate experimental apparatuses. A successful candidate must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers, English language proficiency, and have excellent analytical skills.
